Join Kaye in making this simple half square quilt with stunning results! This is a perfect class for a beginner. Kaye will teach you or refresh your memory on accurate cutting, piecing and other beginner techniques that will improve your quilting skills or begin your quilting journey. You choose your own fabrics and colors. This is a quilt with an attitude. Notice the diagonal rows of the same fabric. It is an unusual setting for a most appealing quilt. This idea would work in many color combinations. This class will also cover sewing basics like careful cutting, and piecing. Any questions you may have please bring them. Have you noticed that your quilts have trouble with the blocks fitting together. I’ll help with that. Let’s trouble shoot some of the piecing problems you may have, but didn’t know you did.

Father’s Day is coming…do you need a quick, fun gift for Dad? How about a tie with fun fabrics? Bring 2 one-yard pieces of coordinating fabric and learn how to make a tie. My ties are made with 100% cotton cloth, I do not recommend other fabrics for this pattern. Ties are made on the bias, so you will have a lot of fabric left over for another fabric. Pattern will be provided in class.

The Freshman year curriculum consists of 13 technique courses that walks quilters through the majority of uses for each tool taught. During the freshman year, students are learning how to use the tools and then identify these fundamental units in other quilt patterns so that they can apply these tools to traditional piecing methods. Each class, with the exception of the Migrating Geese class, has a supporting Tucker University Design Sheet. The design sheet gives students even more ideas on how to incorporate their new skills in to blocks they can design. Students will be amazed at how easy it is to improve their piecing accuracy with the use of the Studio 180 Design tools and techniques. 1. Tucker Trimmer & Shaded Four Patch 2. Josef Albers, the great artist/educator of the 20th Century, acknowledged how tricky colors can be. In his words, “Colors deceive continuously.” As artists, how do we navigate this world of deception? Luckily, by using a few simple rules, we can predict how color will try to deceive us and thereby increase our color confidence. In this hands-on class, MJ Kinman, maker of giant gem quilts, will introduce you to the four rules of color interaction and show you how to apply them to your own quilt design to create dramatic effects – regardless of your subject matter. For example, using strips and squares of solid fabric, MJ will show you how to: • Add sparkle (“bling”!) to your quilts. • Create dramatic focal points. • Add exciting visual movement. • Make your quilts glow. • Create powerful transparencies. • Alter the appearance of a color simply by pairing with another color. • Create the illusion of metal surfaces without using metallic fabric or thread. MJ’s class is based on her new book, “Cracking the Color Code: Master the Magic of Color Interaction”, available in class and on her website.

We have thoughtfully curated a combination of fabrics to create this stunning quilt. The focus of this workshop will be to create a beautiful landscape full of movement and direction. Diagonal lines bring energy and movement to a design and when the light is just right, commonplace subjects are transformed and become noticed. The first step will be to paint two or three different sky fabrics that harmonise together. Then you will be shown a technique to combine sections of hand painted sky with areas of strips placed at an angle. Once you have created your stunning sky, the foreground and other details will be added. You will have the choice of adding a dark outline around the edges of some areas to add more contrast. You can work on your own design or there will be patterns available. Patterns available are for quilts which are approximately 65 x 50 cm
