Beginning Piecing



Piecing: The art of sewing pieces of fabric together to make a specific design.
When you have completed this course, you will have learned the foundation of
successful piecing and have confidence in your abilities to start your own quilting
journey!

Skills Taught in this Course include:
Rotary cutting, sewing accurate ¼” seams, quilting tools, thread, machine set-up,
pressing, how to read a pattern, 4 patch, half-square triangles, “twist and shout,”
snowball corners, flying geese, square-in-a-square, turn dash block, matching
points, diagonal corners, squaring up blocks, chain piecing, block construction and
boarders.

Requirements:
Required Quilting Supplies: - Sewing machine in good working condition - Seam ripper - Straight pins- (You’ll want fine point pins) - Rotary cutter - Cutting mat (at least an 18”x 24”) - Rulers (recommended sizes 6.5” x 24.5”, 6.5” x 12.5”, 6.5” or 8.5” square and a 12.5” square). My favorite brands of rulers are Creative Grids which are good quality, affordable and there is a great selection of sizes. Another good brand is Quilters Select rulers which are slightly better quality, a little more expensive and left-handed friendly. - Thread scissors - Thread for piecing (pick a neutral colored thread like taupe or cream) - Mechanical pencil Required Fabric Supplies: - White* Background – 1 yd - Blue* Fabric A – 1 yd - Yellow* Fabric B – ¾ yd - Pink* Fabric C – ½ yd *Fabric selection does not need to match sample colors…Have fun picking out your own fabrics!
