Requirements: Thread: Personally I like to work with a white cotton thread. Cutting Mat: A 12” x 18” mat next to your machine works well. Pressing: Finger pressing or a pressing tool works well, but for those of you who like to really press: irons will be provided in the classroom. Magic Pins 36 mm ultra fine with the turquoise head or the ultrafine Clover Glass Head Pins: # 2507 A lot. ¼ Add-a-quarter ruler if you need one A Paper-Creasing Tool: a piece of cardstock or template plastic approximately 2” x 8” works well Rulers: I like a small 2½” x 6” and a 6½” x 12” ruler. It is an all-purpose ruler. If you have strips to cut from the full width of your fabrics, a 6½” x 24” ruler will come in handy. Rotary Cutter: 28mm is great…. especially for those tighter curves. A new blade is a necessity! Scissors: Large with a sharp blade. I prefer to work with the large purple Karen Kay Buckley scissors Zip Lock bags: to store your pieces or fabrics Freezer paper. Cellophane tape Machine needles: Microtex needles 70/10 or 80/10 Always good to have extras on hand! Several bobbins: 3 or 4 Pre-wound white bobbins the same as your top thread will save you time in class. Don’t forget to clean and oil your machine prior to coming to class. I’m not an expert;-) on the mechanics of your machine. Bringing your manual may help if a problem occurs with your machine while you are in class. Sewing machine, power cord and your foot pedal!! Your fabrics!... don’t leave them at home! The original pattern, don't leave her at home. You are not allowed to work with a copy of the pattern! Preparation is an essential part of taking my class and to be fully prepared. Which means: Read the pattern very carefully. Highlight the text to make yourself more familiar with the instructions. Cut the templates a smidge larger from the outside lines. Label the fabrics especially when you work with the 24 Rainbow colors. Download the fabric charts from our BeColourful website to help you to organize your fabrics even better. Make your own fabric chart with small pieces of your fabric choices. Cut the fabrics with a ruler and a rotary cutter. Stack and label the fabric pieces according to the fabric charts in the pattern. Store the fabrics and the templates in zip lock bags. Label each zip lock bag. What you also can do is to start with paper piecing the different parts and you can take full advantage of assembling during class time. Read the back cover of “your” pattern to see if you need special materials or notions. Sew line glue pen. Seam Ripper: We know no one makes a mistake, but just in case; a seam ripper can come in handy. Fabric Marker: I love to use a Sew Line white pencil marker with refills. Pencil and / or Pen: And paper, to take notes, if necessary. Bottled Water: It’s important to hydrate…..piecing is hard work! ;-)) I am so looking forward to meeting you all in class…. And please don’t be afraid….. I will show you the easiest way of paper piecing you have ever done and you will see that something that looks so complicated…… can really be fun and nice! Instructor: Jacqueline de Jonge
Instructor Bio: Jacqueline de Jonge is a world-renowned quilter and designer. ?Here is her story... My quilting life began in 1978 when I saw a magazine picture of a Log Cabin-pattern quilt. Right away I had to try my hand at this fascinating work - my sister still has the resulting pink Log Cabin. Since then I have taught myself and tried over the years to reach a level of perfection, not to show off, but because I love the beauty I can achieve through my designs. My goal is to inspire quilters all over the world with beauty and color. I have always been creative, but quilting has hooked me. To be able to work well at something you love is a miracle and a gift from God. I started my BeColourful pattern line in the Netherlands in 2004. BeColourful is now a family owned and operated business in the United States since 2007. My quilts have been displayed worldwide and have won international awards. They are based on traditional designs but with a contemporary and colorful twist. In 2004 at the encouragement of my father I entered the Open European Quilt Championship and won the Color Trophy. Since that year I have lectured and conducted workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe. Interviews have been published in several magazines, and in 2011 I was profiled and featured on the Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson online Quilt Show. I think my passion for quilting helps make me an encouraging and personable teacher. ? I love to share my enthusiasm for my designs with others and to bring them to a different and higher level where they can find their own artistic skills. I also show my students that quilts that may seem difficult in a picture are actually not that hard after all. ?After living in Delft for more than 50 years, I moved to the other side of the country in September 2020 to live closer to my family. Family has always been very important to me and that made it easy for me to leave the busy west of the country behind and make a new start in a new hometown.
